Rumored Dell merger, EoS dates, new Veeam subscriptions

David Hettrick, Market Development Manager

I find it very interesting that there are reports of Dell taking over full ownership of VMware. As reported by CRN, Dell has formed a special committee to look into this reverse merger.

While this is all speculation and not guaranteed to ever happen, the idea itself presents all kinds of interesting questions, such as:

  • What type of pricing discount could you get in bundle Dell server/VMware solutions?
  • What would happen to other server manufacturers?
  • Could they be priced out because of these bundles Dell could possibly create?

Rumor has it

Merger rumors like this also bring monopolistic issues to life. If I were a betting man, I’d say the reverse merger of  Dell and VMware falls flat. At this moment, VMware doesn’t have a lot of competition in their fieldhouse to make this buyout worth it for Dell.

Not to mention that VMware has, in part, been so successful due to its ability to remain hardware agnostic and free of any loyalties to one server manufacturer.

In other VMware news...

There are some important End of support and sales dates coming up in 2018.

    • End of technical guidance (no further development major patches): 8/24/2018
    • Went EoS on 8/24/2016

    • EoS: 9/19/2018
  • SRM 5.5 and 5.8
    • EoS: 9/19/2018
  • Horizon View 6

Rest assured, the TERACAI team can help with upgrades on any of these products and keep you up to date on support.

New Veeam subscriptions

Veeam has introduced a new subscription based pricing model for Veeam Availability Suite, Veeam Backup and Replication and Veeam Backup Essentials.

This new pricing model allows you to purchase any of these products on a per VM basis, instead of the perpetual per socket license. This is licensed annually and you can purchase up to a 5-year subscription, with a minimum quantity of 5 and maximum quantity of 50.

This is an excellent offering for any customer that has a handlful of critical VM’s they want to backup.
